About Dr. Maria Montessori
Maria Montessori (1870- 1952) is an Italian physician and educator. She
is the first female to earn a medical degree in
Italy in 1896.
CLASSROOM ENVIRONMENT
Education is a hands-on.
That is why the furniture is small. The children can select materials from open, easily accessible shelves. They can wash their hands from a sink that they can reach while standing. They can sit at desks that are proportional to their size. Everything is child sized.
The classroom also has an area devoted to peace and reflection: to lead a child to meditative thought.
